Webinar: Bridging the Gap - Experience of Subnational Governments in Reporting and Monitoring SDGs Achievement
Subnational governments play a central role in achieving the 2030 Agenda by implementing the SDGs at the local level. UCLG ASPAC aims to collect information on what subnational governments are doing for the localisation of SDGs in their respective countries.
Hence, UCLG ASPAC has initiated the Voluntary Sub-national Review (VSR) process in Indonesia, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and the Philippines, and Voluntary Local Review (VLR) in cities of Surabaya and Jakarta of Indonesia with technical and financial support of UNESCAP and Asian Development Bank, respectively. Previously, UCLG ASPAC in collaboration with IGES supported the VLR Hamamatsu.
The VSRs and VLRs bridge the gap in national reporting processes and capture how subnational governments are moving towards recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic. The reports are going to be formally launched at the High-Level Political Forum.
This UCLG ASPAC Side Event of the 9th Asia-Pacific Forum on Sustainable Development will be jointly organised with UNESCAP and the Asian Development Bank. It showcases the progress of the VSR and VLR reports. Speakers will present their experiences of the process and share their initiatives and contributions to the countries' Voluntary National Reviews (VNR).
The event is expected to result in:
- Active and visible participation of subnational governments in the implementation of SDGs (as well as stronger and better references to the initiatives of local governments and their involvement in the VNRs).
- Dialogue with national government and partners that supported the review and reporting process.
