Course: Citizen Participation and Inclusive Governance (Blended Training)

When: 21 September - 16 November 2020

Where: The Hague, The Netherlands / Online

Apply by: 4 September 2020

Inclusive development requires responsive governments and empowered citizens. But what can local officials and civil society organisations do to ensure all voices are heard?

In this blended training course, participants will discuss ways to involve citizens – especially minorities and marginalised groups – to create a culture of inclusive governance. Participants will learn how civil society can empower citizens to voice concerns and keep their governments accountable to issues affecting their community.

This training will be a true experience! In this course, you will meet the Ombudsman of The Hague and visit examples of joint policymaking and multi-stakeholder governance, such as neighbourhood projects in the city of Amsterdam or The Hague.

Online module: This module will consist of several assignments spread throughout the timeframe provided. This is an opportunity to learn about the topic (while enhancing your online skills in an innovative e-learning environment) and prepare you for the next part of the course.
Dates: 21 September to 30 October.

Face-to-Face course: Participants will spend eight days in The Netherlands, focusing on study visits, expert presentations and the exchange of experiences with other participants. The Hague Academy intends to offer this part of the training in 2020, but if this proves not to be possible, it will be postponed to 2021 at the earliest possibility.
Dates: 9 to 16 November.
