Only one day away, the UN General Assembly and its Member States will convene on Friday, the 18th of September, to take stock of inspiring SDG actions from around the world. Part of the annual UN General Assembly since 2015, this event - the "SDG Moment" - provides the stage for an “annual SDG check-in”. The event's goal is to highlight progress regarding SDG implementation as well as to identify shortfalls and showcase interventions to increase SDG action.

To actively contribute to the event Member States have to fulfill several coonditions:

  • They are required to be represented at the level of Head of State or Government;
  • They must have completed at least one Voluntary National Review (VNR);
  • They have to be committed to discussing their implementation gaps as well as their plans for closing these gaps.

The SDG Moment 2020 will be kicked off by an introductory address by the Secretary-General and the President of the General Assembly and will be followed by contributions from 20 Member States. Other important stakeholders like civil society organisations, local and city authorities will contribute to the event by showcasing actions to address the identified needs and gaps.

During the event a global broadcast will be streamed live to allow broad global involvement from citizens.

This years 2020 SDG Moment will take place virtually on September 18th.
