This virtual event marks the closing of the project Urban-LEDS II (2017-2021), funded by EU and implemented by UN-HABITAT and ICLEI.

As the window for urgent climate solutions implementation to keep temperatures below 1.5 degrees closes, action in and for cities remains of critical importance. This action needs to be enabled by collaborative and enabling governance models with national governments, and backed by innovative financing approaches that also mainstream climate criteria into government spending and procurement.

Over the last four years, the project Accelerating climate action through the promotion of Urban Low Emission Development Strategies (Urban-LEDS II) has worked with almost 60 cities from 8 countries and their respective national governments to support exactly this type of climate action. Urban-LEDS II supported integrated climate action in emerging economies and developing countries, and facilitated South-South-North exchanges among the project cities from Bangladesh, Brazil, Colombia, India, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Rwanda, South Africa, and across Europe. Urban-LEDS is funded by the European Union, and is implemented by UN-HABITAT and ICLEI-Local Governments for Sustainability (ICLEI).

In this project outlook webinar

  • there will be an opportunity to reflect, take stock, and look ahead to what further action is needed in and for cities to take us to the next level of transformative climate action
  • key Urban-LEDS project impacts and outcomes will be summarized
  • reflections and lessons learnt will be shared by Mayors and Ministers engaged in the project
