Webinar: Women Leadership

The webinar will be entirely dedictated to the topic of "Women Leadership" and on how to include Women Leadership activities in international projects. What are hurdles women face when coming, and staying, into office at the local level? How to best cope with these challenges in your programme? Some first-hand experiences from different contexts will be shared by experts from Ukraine and Uganda, and a senior programme manager from the International Center for Local Democracy (ICLD) in Sweden. Moreover, interesting insights on how to effectively deal with these challenges in projects and programmes will be provided.

  • Anastasiia Zablotska served as acting Mayor of the Ukrainian city of Irpin and is the sitting President of the City Council Women’s European Assembly, combining her experience on local governance with the themes of women empowerment and inclusion policies in local governments. Moreover, as a result of the previous positions she held, Ms. Zablotska has a large network among policy makers on local and national level that is very interested to contribute to strengthening exchange between reform-minded government officials and facilitating exchange between women in government and leadership positions. Ms. Zablotska will be sharing first-hand experiences as local female leader and will elaborate on the challenges experienced before and during her instalment.
  • Rachel Atukwase is currently involved as gender expert in the five-year IDEAL programme of VNG International. This programme is funded by the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs and contributes to better futures for dozens of communities in seven countries facing fragility or conflict: Burundi, Mali, Palestine, Rwanda, Somaliland, South Sudan and Uganda. Ms. Atukwase is involved with gender activities of the programme in Uganda and will gladly share her experiences in this webinar.
  • Shannon Lövgren is an experienced programme manager at the Swedish International Centre for Local Democracy (ICLD) and is involved with their leadership programme aimed at women politicians at the sub-national level in Zimbabwe. Ms. Lövgren will share experiences on how to address (and built capacity on) this topic of women leadership in international donor programmes.
