UN75 – 2020 and Beyond: Shaping Our Future Together

This year, the UN will mark its 75th anniversary. To celebrate the occasion, the UN is reaching out to each and every person on the globe with one request: to share their view on the complex global issues our world faces and to shape the future we want together.

To start the conversation the UN has launched a brief questionnaire focussed on three central aspects:

  1. What kind of future do we want to create?
  2. Are we on track?
  3. What action is needed to bridge the gap?

The five survey questions provide respondents with the opportunity to identify the most challenging global trends, to voice their opinion on the importance of international cooperation and to give advice to the UN Secretary-General on how to address these challenges in future.

The survey aims to capture the broadest possible picture of the state of the world in 2020 and to encourage people to brainstorm together to define how enhanced international cooperation can help realize a better world by 2045, the UN’s 100th birthday.

Based on the expressed views of all participants the UN will try to design explicit actions to turn their suggestions into realities. Following the directive of ‘Leave No One Behind’, UN75 will try to involve as many people as possible and to capture the voices of citizens off all 193 UN member states.

The survey will be accessible online and offline and shared through various channels. After nine months, the results will be presented at the 75th United Nations General Assembly in September 2020. All key outcomes will be published on a website, which will also track the actions taken following the evaluation of the survey’s responses.
