Webinar: Actions for the Immediate Response and the Generation of Employment and Sustainable Local Economic Activity from Local Governments
As part of the series of Live Learning Experiences, this thematic virtual session will focus on providing
measures to boost employment generation and sustainable local economic activity as a key challenge
faced by cities during and after the outbreak.
In the current scenario, the ILO’s new global estimates indicate that working hours will decline by 6.7 per
cent in the second quarter of 2020, which is equivalent to 195 million full-time workers. The final tally of
annual job losses in 2020 will depend critically on the evolution of the pandemic and the measures taken
to mitigate its impact.
The multilateral organizations and world banks, the European Union, the states and the LRGs are adopting
promptly answers and they are preparing for "the day after" with economic stimulus measures.
Local governments are key for the implementation of local policies for economic reactivation and
promotion of employment, in coordination with the rest of public and private social agents and knowledge
management actors of the territory.
