Where: online

Register by: 26 May 2023

The world organization United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG) and Platforma are launching the 1st edition moderated online course "Localizing the SDGs through Decentralized Cooperation: tools for projects, policies and partnerships".

The course aims to train and provide tools to local and regional governments (LRGs) and their associations (LRGAs) in the development of Decentralized Cooperation (DC) strategies of projects and policies based on the SDGs, offering a global and integrated vision of DC in different regions of the world and its role in the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the 2030 Agenda.

For that, the course has been designed taking into account the realities of LRGs, LRGAs and organizations involved in decentralized cooperation, as well as their experiences, challenges and good practices.

In order to enable the participation of as many countries as possible, the course is available in three languages: Spanish, English and French. This entails a greater diversity of visions and experiences that can only enrich the training.

This training will take place over 2 months and will have a total duration equivalent to 65 teaching hours, and is based on theLearning Module 4 on the SDGs localization, organized by UCLG and Platforma, with the Global Taskforce of Local and Regional Governments, UNDP, UN-Habitat and the Barcelona Provincial Government.

Target audience:

The training program is intended primarily for technical and political authorities working in the fields of international relations, public policy management or any other government work related to decentralized cooperation and the implementation of the 2030 Agenda.

Furthermore, this online course is clearly designed to be practical. Accordingly, there is a strong focus towards activities, most notably those that generate an in-depth debate and interaction between participants. The aim is for participants' own experience to operate as a pillar on which the training is structured.

Interactive webinars (two live webinars - in first weeks of July and August), quizzes and interactive exercises will allow exchange with trainers, experts and technical colleagues of the institutions involved. This combination makes it possible to delve deeper into the content through critical analysis, while encouraging the application of concepts and tools.

Admission criteria:

A total of 35 places are offered for each of the three language modalities. The course carries no cost for participants since it is fully funded by Platforma and UCLG. Certificates will be provided to participants who complete the course.

The selection process will take into account the suitability to the target audience profile described above and it will attempt to ensure a balanced composition on gender and on the representation of countries and regions of the group.

The course is intended to be held once a year, and participants who are selected and confirmed in this edition will not have priority for the following years.

Therefore, UCLG kindly ask you to only apply if you are able to dedicate the time and attention needed.
