Background

According to the UN, 55% of the world’s population lives in urban areas and the number is expected to notably increase. Cities are the main actors in achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals and collaboration between them is thus crucial to supporting the 2030 Agenda. In the face of development and environmental challenges posed by rapid urban expansion, cities need holistic and forward-looking approach for future development, to revitalize its old centers and direct its residents to a greener and healthier lifestyle.

With over 20 million inhabitant, Chinese metropolis Chnegdu launched its Park City Initiative in early 2018. A park city explores a future version of cities which highlight a people-centered green development path.

Objective

The series is composed of two consecutive webinars, the first about "City-wide plans and initiatives towards a sustainable future" and the second about "Daring Solutions to Secure a Greener Urban Future".

Government and civil society representatives, leaders, city planners and managers will get to exchange on city planning, how can planning shape green development and improve the quality of living, and how is a park city creating green jobs and directing citizens to an eco-friendly lifestyle.
