Webinar: How to Mainstream Climate Projects into Cities’ Governance Frameworks?

When: 1 September 2020, 3-4 pm (CEST)

Where: Online

Apply by: Registration open

This webinar is part of GIZ's webinar series on "Local climate leadership in times of COVID-19: The case for collaborative action and national support."

This second session will deal with Germany’s multi-level support structure, at the example of the National Climate Initiative focusing on the “Local Governance Scheme” (“Kommunalrichtlinie”) which supports projects on emission reductions at the local level. This may not only result in significant cuts of urban emissions, but also relieve municipal budgets through reduced energy costs.

In the first part, selected programmes to promote the mainstreaming of climate projects into the local policy agenda will be presented. Practical experiences from the City of Heidelberg are discussed thereafter. Speakers this time include:

Natalie Eichler, Policy Officer at division IK III 3 "National Climate Initiative, Climate Policy in the Business Sector and Municipalities" at the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU), and

Ralf Bermich, Head of Department "Energy and Climate Protection" at the City of Heidelberg.

Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions during the Q&A session.
