The Development Partners Network on Decentralisation and Local Governance (DeLoG) convened a strategic meeting to chart its course for the coming years. The network, committed to enhancing the effectiveness of decentralization and local governance initiatives, set its sights on aligning with global agendas, bolstering its Working Groups, and securing a stable financial foundation.

Key priorities include active participation in the Summit for the Future 2024 and the fourth international conference on financing for development (4FfD) in 2025. DeLoG also aims to foster thought leadership and partnerships within its Working Groups, ensuring their involvement in relevant global discussions.

The meeting also highlighted the successful transition of the DeLoG Secretariat from GIZ to UNCDF and the continuation of its initiatives, such as regular network meetings, DeLoG in Dialogue conversations, Local Heroes interviews, and the Newsletter.

Looking ahead, the CIB/DeLoG annual meeting in Barcelona from May 27-30, 2024, will provide a platform for exploring critical themes, including democracy, post-conflict reconstruction, crisis fragility, and democratic resilience. The network also discussed the potential formation of a fourth working group dedicated to conflict resolution and post-conflict reconstruction.

As DeLoG moves forward with its strategic vision, the network remains committed to strengthening local governance, promoting sustainable development, and driving positive change in communities worldwide.

During the High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) in July 2021, the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA) presented the report on the pandemic’s effects on the Sustainable Development Agenda 2030.

DeLoG members and partners will convene for the network’s second virtual Annual Meeting. The Annual Meeting 2021 will address how decentralisation and local governance (DLG) support can be more inclusive and resilient.
