In 2015, the international community adopted the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Based on principles of implementation, the agenda includes 17 Sustainable Development Goals that aim to eradicate poverty, preserve the environment and ensure the development of more peaceful and inclusive societies.

Several municipalities in Benin have had rich experiences in reaching the Agenda. One example is the waste recovery experience of the NGO ReBin in partnership with the municipality of Toffo. It is a circular economy project that highlights the integrated approach by promoting the consideration of three dimensions - social, economic and environmental - to achieve sustainable development of the municipality and society.
